Photoselection
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008922
The preferential excitation of molecules with specific orientations by polarized light. When a sample is irradiated with linearly polarized light, molecules whose absorption dipoles are aligned with the electric vector of the light are more likely to absorb photons. This leads to an anisotropic distribution of excited states, which can be probed by measuring the polarization of emitted fluorescence or other spectroscopic signals.
