Raman optical activity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009909
A spectroscopic technique that measures the difference in Raman scattering intensity for right and left circularly polarized incident light, or the circular polarization of the scattered light from linearly polarized incident light. This phenomenon arises from the interaction of light with chiral molecules. It provides detailed stereochemical information about molecular structure, particularly for biological molecules.
