Polarized Raman band
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009083
A Raman band whose depolarization ratio is below 0.75 when the incident radiation is linearly polarized, which in solutions and gases is characteristic of totally symmetric vibrations. The scattered light stays largely polarized parallel to the incident beam, and the ratio is the intensity measured with the analyser perpendicular to the incident polarization divided by that measured parallel to it. Bands from non-symmetric vibrations are depolarized, with a ratio of 0.75.
