Anisotropic Raman scattering
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000619
Raman scattering that comes from the anisotropic component of the derived polarizability tensor, as distinct from its isotropic component. In samples of randomly oriented molecules it supplies the depolarized part of a band, and purely anisotropic scattering from nontotally symmetric vibrations has a depolarization ratio of 0.75. It carries information on molecular symmetry and on orientation in ordered samples.
