Anomalously polarized Raman band
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000636
A Raman band whose depolarization ratio exceeds 0.75, the upper limit for an ordinary depolarized band in normal Raman scattering with plane-polarized excitation. Such values turn up often in surface-enhanced resonance Raman spectra. They indicate that the scattering tensor is not purely symmetric, for example because it has an antisymmetric component, which is absent from non-resonant scattering.
