Excitation profile

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004183

A plot showing the intensity of a specific Raman scattering band as a function of the excitation laser's frequency or wavenumber. The profile is generated by measuring the Raman spectrum of a sample using a tunable laser and monitoring a single Raman peak while scanning the laser wavelength. When the excitation frequency approaches an electronic absorption band of the molecule, a dramatic increase in the Raman intensity occurs, a phenomenon known as resonance Raman scattering.
