Excitation level
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004182
A specific quantized energy state of an atom, molecule, or ion that is higher in energy than its ground state. When a species absorbs energy, it can transition to one of these discrete excitation levels. The energy difference between the ground state and an excitation level corresponds to the excitation energy.
