Atomic excitation source
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000892
A device or mechanism that provides the energy necessary to promote atoms from their ground electronic state to higher energy levels. Common examples include flames, inductively coupled plasmas, arcs, and sparks. The excited atoms subsequently emit photons as they return to lower energy states, forming the basis of atomic emission spectroscopy.
