Collisional excitation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002231
The transfer of energy from the translational motion of colliding particles into the internal energy (vibrational, rotational, or electronic) of one or both of the particles. This process can promote an atom or molecule to a higher energy state. It is a fundamental mechanism in plasma physics and atmospheric chemistry.
