Internal energy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005963

The total energy contained within a thermodynamic system, excluding the kinetic and potential energy of the system as a whole. It comprises the kinetic and potential energies of the molecules, atoms, and subatomic particles within the system. Internal energy is a state function and is typically denoted by U.
