Elastic scattering
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003620
A type of scattering process where the total kinetic energy of the interacting particles remains unchanged. The internal states of the particles, such as their electronic or vibrational energy levels, are also conserved during the interaction. This phenomenon is distinct from inelastic scattering, where kinetic energy is converted into internal energy or vice versa.
