Internal conversion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005962
A radiationless transition between electronic states of the same spin multiplicity within a molecule. This process involves the conversion of electronic energy into vibrational energy, leading to relaxation to a lower electronic state. It is a very fast process, typically occurring on the femtosecond to picosecond timescale.
