Conversion electron
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002545
An electron ejected from an atom's electron shell as a result of an internal conversion process, where an excited nucleus transfers its energy directly to an atomic electron rather than emitting a gamma ray. These electrons are monoenergetic and carry kinetic energy equal to the nuclear transition energy minus the electron's binding energy. They are observed in beta decay spectroscopy.
