Conversion dynode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012997
A surface held at a high potential that incoming ions strike so that secondary electrons or ions are emitted and then detected by an electron multiplier. It makes high-mass ions, which are slow and give a weak direct signal, easier to detect, and it lets negative ions be detected through the positive secondary particles or electrons they release. Its potential is set at several kilovolts.
