Discrete dynode particle multiplier
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003286
A type of detector used in mass spectrometry and other applications to amplify a small current of charged particles. It consists of a series of individual electrodes, or dynodes, each held at a progressively higher potential. An incident ion or electron strikes the first dynode, releasing secondary electrons that are then accelerated to the next dynode, creating a cascade of electrons.
