Discotic mesogen
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003285
A molecule with a flat, disk-like core, often composed of an aromatic system, surrounded by flexible peripheral chains such as alkyl or alkoxy groups. These molecules can self-assemble into liquid crystalline phases, known as discotic phases, where they stack into columns. The specific arrangement within these columns defines phases like the columnar hexagonal or columnar rectangular phase.
