Spacer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011073

A flexible, non-mesogenic segment within a polymer chain that separates and connects mesogenic groups or side chains. The spacer's length and flexibility influence the mobility and ordering of the mesogenic units, thereby affecting the liquid crystalline properties of the polymer. Alkyl chains are commonly used as spacers in liquid crystalline polymers.
