Main-chain polymer liquid crystal

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006922

A polymer in which the mesogenic (liquid crystal forming) groups are incorporated directly into the main backbone of the polymer chain. These mesogenic units are typically separated by flexible spacer units to allow for the necessary molecular mobility to form liquid crystalline phases. The orientation of the mesogens dictates the overall liquid crystalline behavior of the material.
