Discotic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003284
Describing molecules that possess a flat, disc-like shape, often with a rigid core and flexible peripheral chains. These molecules can self-assemble into columnar liquid crystalline phases, where the discs stack one upon another. Such materials are studied for applications in organic electronics, including solar cells and field-effect transistors.
