Core atom
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002577
An atom within a molecule that serves as a central reference point for describing the structure and reactivity of the compound. It is often the atom undergoing a chemical transformation or the atom to which other groups are attached. In organic reaction mechanisms, the core atom is frequently the carbon atom at the reaction center.
