Columnar phase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002260
A mesophase in which disc-shaped molecules or aggregates stack one on top of another to form columns, and these columns are arranged in a two-dimensional lattice. This ordered arrangement gives rise to anisotropic properties, such as electrical conductivity along the column axis. These phases are characteristic of discotic liquid crystals.
