Coma

A profound state of unconsciousness from which an individual cannot be aroused, even by painful stimuli. This condition results from widespread damage to the brain, particularly to the reticular activating system, which is responsible for wakefulness. A coma is a medical emergency, and its duration can range from days to weeks, with outcomes varying widely depending on the underlying cause.
