Coma
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001248
An optical aberration that causes off-axis point sources of light to appear as comet-shaped blurs rather than sharp points. This distortion increases with the distance from the optical axis and is more pronounced in fast lenses with large apertures. It results from different parts of the lens having different magnifications for off-axis rays.
