Aplanatism
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000245
The optical property of a lens or system that is free from both spherical aberration and coma for a given pair of conjugate points. An optical system exhibiting aplanatism produces a sharp, undistorted image of a small area both on and off the optical axis. To achieve this condition, the system must satisfy the Abbe sine condition, a mathematical requirement relating ray angles to magnification.
