Comatic
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001249
Relating to or affected by coma, an optical aberration that causes off-axis point sources to appear distorted, as if they have a tail like a comet. In an imaging system, this defect makes stars or other point objects near the edge of the field of view look like teardrops or fan shapes, with their tails pointing either away from or toward the optical axis. Lens designs use corrected elements and specific curvatures to minimize this effect.
