Distortion

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001759

An optical aberration that causes straight lines in an object to appear curved in the image, without affecting the sharpness of the image. This occurs when the magnification of an optical system varies with the distance from the optical axis. Pincushion distortion makes lines bow inward, while barrel distortion makes them bow outward.
