Distortion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001126
Any alteration or deformation of seismic wave characteristics, such as amplitude, phase, or waveform, as they propagate through the Earth. This can be caused by variations in subsurface geology, acquisition geometry, or processing artifacts. Minimizing distortion is a primary goal in seismic data processing to obtain an accurate image of the subsurface.
