Amplitude distortion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000110
The alteration of the amplitude of a seismic signal as it passes through the earth or a recording system, where the output amplitude is not linearly proportional to the input. This effect can be caused by factors such as geometric spreading, absorption, or instrument limitations. Processing techniques like automatic gain control (AGC) are applied to correct for these distortions and recover a more accurate representation of subsurface reflectivity.
