Amplitude variation with offset

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000111

The change in the amplitude of a seismic reflection as a function of the distance between the seismic source and receiver. This phenomenon is sensitive to the elastic properties of the rock layers, particularly the P-wave and S-wave velocities and density. AVO analysis is used to detect and characterize hydrocarbon reservoirs.
