Incident angle
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001959
The angle between an incoming ray and the normal to a reflecting or refracting interface. Snell's law uses it to give the directions of the reflected and transmitted rays, and the Zoeppritz equations use it to give their amplitudes. It is the independent variable in amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis, where reflection amplitude is studied against angle.
