Amplitude variation with offset and azimuth

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000112

The change in seismic reflection amplitude as a function of both the source-receiver offset and the azimuth, or direction, relative to the subsurface. This technique is used to detect and characterize fractured reservoirs and anisotropic rock formations. AVAZ analysis provides insights into fracture orientation and density.
