True amplitude recovery
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003924
A series of seismic data processing steps designed to compensate for factors that alter the recorded amplitude of seismic reflections, restoring them to values proportional to the reflectivity of subsurface interfaces. The processing corrects for geometric spreading, transmission losses, and attenuation effects. This processing is a prerequisite for amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis, which relates reflection amplitudes to rock and fluid properties.
A sequence of seismic data processing procedures intended to correct for physical effects that modify the recorded amplitude of seismic reflections. These corrections aim to make the final amplitudes proportional to the subsurface's reflection coefficients by compensating for geometric spreading, transmission losses, and attenuation. This processing is a prerequisite for amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis, which interprets amplitude changes as a function of source-receiver distance.
