TAR
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003770
An abbreviation for true amplitude recovery, a series of seismic data processing steps designed to compensate for amplitude losses that are not related to subsurface reflectivity. These corrections account for effects such as spherical divergence, transmission losses, and attenuation, restoring the relative amplitude relationships between seismic reflections. The goal of TAR processing is to produce a seismic dataset where the amplitude of a reflection is directly proportional to the reflection coefficient of the geologic boundary that created it.
