Spherical divergence
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003535
The geometric spreading of seismic wave energy as it propagates outward from a point source in a homogeneous medium. As the wavefront expands, the energy is distributed over an increasingly larger area, causing the amplitude of the wave to decrease with distance. This effect is typically compensated for during seismic processing to restore true reflection amplitudes.
