Spherical flow
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003536
A flow regime in which fluid converges on the wellbore from all directions in three dimensions, as it would toward a point sink. It occurs when only a small part of a thick formation is open to flow, for example with a partial penetration, a limited-entry completion or a formation-tester probe. On a log-log pressure derivative plot spherical flow shows a line with a slope of minus one half.
