Linear flow
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002173
A flow regime where reservoir fluids move in parallel paths toward a planar source, such as a hydraulic fracture or a long horizontal wellbore. This flow pattern occurs before the effects of the fracture tips or reservoir boundaries are felt, with fluid entering the fracture perpendicularly along its entire face. On a log-log diagnostic plot of pressure derivative versus time, linear flow is identified by a characteristic line with a slope of one-half.
