Fracturing pressure
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004340
The downhole fluid pressure required to overcome the rock's tensile strength and the in-situ stresses, thereby creating a fracture. This pressure is identified during a leak-off test or a diagnostic fracture injection test as the point where the linear relationship between pressure and pumped volume breaks. Exceeding this pressure during drilling operations can lead to lost circulation, while it is the target pressure for hydraulic fracturing stimulation treatments.
