Hydraulic fracturing

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001892

A well stimulation technique that involves injecting high-pressure fluid into a wellbore to create or enlarge fractures in the reservoir rock, thereby increasing its permeability and enhancing hydrocarbon flow. Proppant, such as sand or ceramic beads, is carried by the fluid into these fractures to keep them open after the injection pressure is released. This process is widely used to produce oil and gas from low-permeability formations like shale.
