Hydraulic fracture monitoring
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001891
The use of geophysical and pressure-based methods to measure the geometry and growth of fractures created during a stimulation treatment. The primary technique is microseismic monitoring, which involves deploying arrays of geophones in offset wells or on the surface to detect the small seismic events generated as the rock breaks. Analysis of these events provides data on fracture length, height, and azimuth, which is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment.
