Formation fracture pressure
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001537
The pressure at which a subsurface rock formation will begin to crack or part, allowing injected fluids to create or extend fractures. This pressure is a key parameter in well design and operations, particularly during drilling and hydraulic fracturing. It is measured in pounds per square inch (psi) or kilopascals (kPa) and varies with depth and rock type.
