Fracture
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001566
A break or crack in a rock formation, which can be natural or induced, that creates pathways for fluid flow. Natural fractures result from tectonic stresses, while induced fractures are created by hydraulic fracturing to enhance permeability. The presence and orientation of fractures significantly influence reservoir fluid migration and production rates.
