Fracture porosity

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004339

The pore volume within a rock that is attributable to natural or induced fractures, joints, and faults. This type of secondary porosity provides pathways for fluid flow, even in rocks with low matrix porosity, such as shales, carbonates, and basement rocks. Fracture porosity is calculated from well logs, core analysis, or image logs and is a key parameter in characterizing naturally fractured reservoirs.
