Acoustic emission
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000040
The generation of transient elastic waves produced by a sudden release of energy within a material undergoing stress, such as rock fracturing. In hydraulic fracturing operations, these microseismic events are monitored by arrays of geophones to map the extent and geometry of the created fracture network. The frequency and location of these emissions provide real-time feedback on the treatment's progress and effectiveness in stimulating the reservoir.
