Acoustic velocity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000049
The speed at which an acoustic wave propagates through a medium, determined by the medium's elastic properties and density. It is a key parameter in seismic exploration for converting seismic traveltimes to depths and for understanding rock characteristics. Acoustic velocity is typically measured in meters per second (m/s) or feet per second (ft/s).
