Acoustic velocity log

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000050

A well log that measures the travel time of a sound wave through the formation adjacent to the borehole, providing information about the rock's elastic properties and porosity. It records the time it takes for a compressional wave to travel a specific distance, which is inversely proportional to the rock's velocity. This log is used to calculate porosity, identify lithology, detect gas, and correlate with seismic data for time-to-depth conversion.
