Acoustic traveltime
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000048
The time required for a sound wave to travel a specific distance through a medium, also known as transit time. In wireline logging, a sonic tool measures this interval over a fixed distance along the borehole wall to calculate the formation's acoustic velocity. This measurement, recorded in microseconds per foot or per meter, is a primary input for calculating porosity and calibrating seismic velocity models.
