Sonic measurement
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003508
The process of determining the travel time of acoustic waves through a formation, used to evaluate porosity and rock mechanical properties. A transducer emits sound pulses, and receivers detect the arrival of these waves after they have traveled through the rock. The interval transit time, measured in microseconds per foot, is inversely proportional to the velocity of sound in the formation.
