Sonolog
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003509
An acoustic well sounder that fires a gas pressure pulse down the casing annulus and times the echo from the liquid surface to find the fluid level. The level is converted to depth using the speed of sound in the annulus gas and, with the fluid gradient, gives an estimate of bottomhole pressure in a non-flowing, pumped well. The name began as a trade name for such instruments.
