Dynamic fluid level
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001226
The depth from the surface to the top of the liquid in a well's casing annulus while the well is actively producing. This measurement reflects the balance between fluid inflow from the reservoir and fluid removal by the pump, indicating the producing bottomhole pressure or drawdown. It is measured using an acoustic well sounder, which generates a pressure wave and times the reflection from the fluid surface, and contrasts with the static fluid level measured when the well is shut in.
