Dynamic filtration

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001225

Fluid loss of a mud into a permeable formation while the mud is flowing past the face, so that the filter cake grows and is eroded at the same time. The cake thickness levels off when deposition and erosion balance, and the filtration rate then settles near a constant value instead of falling with the square root of time as in static filtration. Dynamic filtration rates are typically higher than static rates at the same pressure.
